The Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT) is committed to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. We acknowledge the historical and ongoing impacts of systemic racism, colonialism, and the residential school system on Indigenous peoples. We also recognize the resulting trauma, limited access to justice, and barriers to Indigenous representation, including among CRT staff and tribunal members.
The CRT Reconcili(action) Plan 2020-2024 sets out the CRT’s commitment to implement specific, measurable, and timely actions toward reconciliation. It includes short and long-term actions we’re taking to better serve Indigenous people through the CRT process.
These actions include recruiting, hiring and retaining Indigenous staff and tribunal members, decolonizing our language and processes, and exploring ways to incorporate Indigenous legal orders into the CRT process to better acknowledge that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to resolving disputes.
We are committed to providing a friendly and culturally safe space that will support, encourage and maintain relationships with Indigenous peoples.
