Rules and Policies

As permitted by the Civil Resolution Tribunal Act, the CRT has rules which set out the CRT’s practices and procedures. The CRT creates its own rules. These are not set by government.

The rules are a bit like an instruction guide. They help make the CRT fair, transparent, and consistent.

The CRT regularly reviews and updates its rules to ensure they are clear and consistent. We invite feedback about most proposed changes through public consultation. This is part of our commitment to building the CRT around the needs of the people who will be using it.

The CRT has two sets of rules:

  • The Standard Rules apply to all types of CRT disputes other than certain types of claims under the Intimate Images Protection Act.
  • The Intimate Image Protection Order Rules apply to claims under the Intimate Images Protection Act for an intimate image protection order or an administrative penalty. The CRT’s Standard Rules apply to damages claims under the Intimate Images Protection Act.
