Simmi K. Sandhu Appointed CRT Chair

The CRT is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Chair, Simmi K. Sandhu.

Simmi is currently the Chair of the Property Assessment Appeal Board (PAAB). In 2018, she was appointed by the General Assembly of the United Nations as Judge of the United Nations Appeals Tribunal.

She was previously Vice Chair at PAAB and  for the Surface Rights Board.  She was past President and Director of the BC Council of Administrative Tribunals (BCCAT) and currently instructs for BCCAT in areas of administrative law, hearing skills, and decision writing as well as assisting in development of its Inclusive Adjudication and Implicit Bias workshop. In 2014, BCCAT awarded Simmi with its Award for Exceptional Service to the Administrative Justice Community.

She was called to the bar of British Columbia and worked in house for the Public Guardian & Trustee of BC and ICBC, as well as private practice. Her areas of practice included administrative law, civil litigation, corporate/commercial law and real estate transactions. Simmi holds her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia.

Simmi will continue as Chair of PAAB and transition from that role to the CRT in August. Until then, CRT Vice Chair Shelley Lopez will be acting Chair.
