Introducing the CRT’s May 2020 Articling Student

The CRT is very excited to welcome Shiko Mungai.

Shiko will be joining the CRT for the month of May 2020 as an articling student.

Shiko joined the CRT from Jones Emery where she was an articled student since November 2019. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Uganda Christian University, a Post-Graduate diploma in legal practice from the Kenya School of Law, and a Certificate of Qualification from the Federation of Law Societies of Canada for foreign-trained lawyers. Shiko was called to the Bar in Kenya in 2014, and was in private practice for several years before moving to Canada in 2017 for family reasons. She has also previously worked at the BC Ministry of Attorney General, Elections BC, the United Nations Environment Programme, Amnesty International and volunteered at other non-governmental organizations.

Shiko grew up in Eldoret in western Kenya, which is known as the “home of champions” for most of Kenya’s world-renowned long distance runners.

As a newcomer to Canada, Shiko is passionate about supporting other newcomers and serves on the Board of Directors of the Inter- Cultural Association of Greater Victoria. She is also a passionate advocate for education of girls in Kenya.

When she is not working, Shiko loves spending time with her husband and 2 daughters, gardening when the weather permits, sharing her culture with others, mentoring young people, and exploring beautiful BC. She listens to Kenyan music to heal her homesickness.
