CRT Key Statistics – March 2024

Open” includes disputes in screening, negotiation and facilitation, on hold, decision preparation, and adjudication.

Closed” includes withdrawn claims, disputes resolved by agreement, the CRT refused to issue a Dispute Notice, disputes resolved by default or final decision, and other reasons for closure.

Vehicle Accidents

  • Motor Vehicle Injury: disputes about motor vehicle accidents that happened between April 1, 2019 and April 30, 2021.
  • Accident Benefits: disputes about motor vehicle accidents that happened on or after May 1, 2021.
  • Accident Responsibility: disputes about ICBC’s assessment of a person’s responsibility for a motor vehicle accident.

Intimate Images

  • The Intimate Images Protection Act (IIPA) came into force on January 29, 2024.
  • Protection Order: the CRT can issue protection orders that require an intimate image be deleted, de-indexed, and/or removed from a website or social media platform.
  • Damages: The CRT can award damages of up to $5,000. Damages are money a respondent pays for the harm caused by sharing or threatening to share an intimate image with a person’s consent. This money is payable to the applicant.
  • Administrative Penalty: If a person or internet platform doesn’t comply with a protection order, the CRT can order an administrative penalty. Administrative penalties are payable to government.
